Following the Government update on 16 March 2020 and ongoing situation with COVID-19, all RHS Shows, Garden Events and school visits will be cancelled with immediate effect until 30 June 2020.
This is a worldwide unprecedented and challenging time for so many people and of course the health and safety of our members, visitors, exhibitors, staff and volunteers remains our number one priority. Read more at RHS web site https://www.rhs.org.uk
Welcome to Craig House Cacti
Thank you for supporting us throughout the 2019 season, it was testing but good. We achieved top awards all through the season, so did the judges finally accept our way of displaying in a modern setting? Not too sure of that as on the feedback there were always little picky and niggling criticisms. Despite this we were well pleased with the response from our audience and that is all that matters. The general public enjoy our modern take on growing succulent plants and the RHS have picked up on this as they have produced mini videos on growing house plants in unusual containers which we introduced three years ago and got slated for.
Malvern Spring grows in popularity with the public and exhibitors and can be classed as one of the best flower shows around. This year plans to be better than ever with the celebration of VE day happening on that particular weekend. Chelsea went well as for the first time we had help all through the show and we got our gold back, which makes nine in total. Hopefully we can do the same again this year.
Gardeners’ World went really well and we saw a lot of our friends there as we are so local. On to Blenheim Palace where we got Best in Show, two years on the trot, not bad going. Hampton Court Palace next and we did well again but at the bottom end of the marquee it was sometimes difficult to talk to our customers as there was a band playing loud music outside. They now call it a festival not a flower show, which may be good for family visitors but not true gardeners. Tatton park was a bit of a trial, a wholesaler outside with two stands, no names on plants and no information on care given. Why do people get upset when we stop them photographing our plants so as they can get the names? We are here to make a living not be trampled on. Chorley and Southport went well despite some rain but they were both enjoyable.
This was followed by our longest journey, up to Dundee. The rain was relentless for days beforehand and the show ground was churned up something chronic, 500 tons of bark was spread around to make it more acceptable for the public on the days of the show. We met some of our old friends up there which really made the show for us and getting Best in Show again. Finally back to Malvern for the closing show of the season, another good one. Let’s hope this season will be as good if not better.
We had visits from many celebrities again and it was very much a ‘Strictly’ year as Vicki was in her element meeting a number of stars from the show, including Bruno, Craig and Len to name but three.
Finally for those of you who like statistics at the end of our twelfth season our tally stands at one silver, six silver-gilts, ninety six golds from other than RHS shows and sixty five RHS gold awards.
All the best to everyone and many thanks for your continued support.
See you soon!
Stan and Vicki
